This piece was inspired by a quote that went viral on Twitter saying: "Imagine if men were as disgusted with rape as they are with periods." Which, made me reflect on how womxn's bodies are continuously exploited, fetishized and desired, but also censored and hated.

BIOGRAPHY

Jo Cosme is a queer interdisciplinary artist from San Juan, PR; currently based in Seattle. She successfully completed her BFA majoring in photography by 2014. She’s photographed for Out Magazine and BESE, her work’s been featured in the Journal of Puerto Rican Studies in CUNY, has exhibited in places such as Museo de las Américas, Puerto Rico, the 22nd PCNW Juried Photography Exhibition and most recently in Galerie Rivoli 59, Paris. She’s also been invited to give talks on Puerto Rican art as a form of decolonial effort at Allied Media Conference, Detroit. Jo uses art as a tool to encourage social justice by addressing issues encompassing the Boricua LGBTQ+ community and Puerto Rico's struggles. Her main goal is to provoke relevant conversations and help give visibility to these underrepresented voices and issues.
